what is democracy, features merit and demerit

Democracy can be defined as the study of people.the world democracy is coined from Greek word ('demo' - which mean people & 'kratia' - which mean study). According to "Abraham Lincoln"- it is the government of the people by the people and for the people.

                 Features of democratic

1. There must be a constitution.a written documents that contains the law of a land.

2. The rule of law must be present. That is the supremacy of law, no one is above the law. 

3. The judiciary must be independent. Must be free from the control of government or arms of government.

4. There should be a good party system.

5. Election must be free, fair and periodic

                       Merit of democracy

1. It makes for public accountability.

2. It make for team. Spirit.

3. It make people express their feeling.

4. It allows peace.

5. It makes egalitarianism.

6. Judiciary is independent.

                       Demerit of democracy

1. Democracy encourage the tyranny of the majority over the minority.

3. It leads to slowness in decision making.

3. There is over politicisation of issue.

Factors that can sustain democratic govt.

1. The literary rate must be high.

2. The citizen should ensure equal opportunity.

3. Election must be free and fair.

4. Judiciary must be independent
